HEALTH OCCUPATIONS STUDENTS OF AMERICA (HOSA)

Future Health Professions

As a pre-health professional student, you are entering the year with a goal, a dream or for some others it might seem that you are indecisive about which occupation to seek. Desert Mountain AHEC is sponsoring the Collegiate Double T Health Professions Honor Society to support you on the right path to discovering your destiny in the medical field. We give our members the privilege to be a part of another organization known as Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA).

HOSA is an international organization for secondary and post-secondary students across the country that provides the opportunity to explore the medical field, grow as future leaders, attend beneficial conferences, and gain skills in different areas of health care. Through HOSA, students can compete in events such as forensic medicine, clinical nursing, dental science, medical math, and more. Students can compete individually or as a team depending on which event they may choose.

By joining HOSA, students become one step closer to reaching their future goals by developing leadership skills in whatever pathway they choose to compete in. If you’re interested in joining HOSA or have any questions, contact our HOSA Chair.

HOSA MEMBERS

Hello! My name is Alondra Elizalde and I am currently a Senior at the University Of Texas at El Paso. My major is in Biomedical Sciences and my plans to pursue a career as a Health Care Physician in the community of El Paso. I attended the Bel Air Health Professions in High School and served as the Vice President, which gave me the opportunity to be part of HOSA. As I began college and became part of the Collegiate Double T Honor Society, there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to continue throughout my undergrad years. I competed in Health Career Display for the first time with my best friend Alondra Sierra. We placed 3rd at State level and made Finalists at Internationals. Not only was HOSA an amusing and incredible experience, but it also gave me leadership skills, health occupation knowledge, and networking skills. Traveling to Dallas was full of fun, as I was able to meet students in the Collegiate level who were from different states and countries. That made it a remarkable experience and a great way to create friendships with individuals who have the same aspirations and goals in life.
